Verb of the week: käydä kiivaana

 week 43, 2021 

käydä kiivaana = to become heated, to heat up, in a metaphorical sense, such as a topic, conversation, sales, etc.

Keskustelu kävi kiivaana. = The conversation became heated.

Mökkikauppa kävi alkuvuonna kiivaana, hinnat kipusivat yli 20 prosenttia. = Cottage-sales (the "mökki" market) heated up during the start of the year, prices soared by over 20 percent.

Verb of the week: kiertää

 week 42, 2021 

1. to go around an obstacle:

Hän kiersi sen. = He went around it.

2. to orbit (a planet or similar):

Se kiersi kuun 7 kertaa. = It went around the moon 7 times.

3. to avoid or dodge something (can be metaphorical, like a topic):

Eilen hän kiersi aihetta. = Yesterday he avoided the topic.

Kopiosuojaus voidaan kiertää. = You can get around copy protection.

4. to tour, to go around:

Hän kiersi Eurooppaa. = He went around / toured Europe.

Hän kiersi seitsemän vuoden ajan Suomen kansallispuistoja. = During a 7 year period he toured Finland's national parks.
