Verb of the week: hymähtää

hymähtää = to smile shortly, to smile and make a "hmm" noise

Yritin kysyä häneltä enemmän asiasta, mutta hän vain hymähti ja ei vastanut mitään. = I tried to ask him more about it, mutta he just smiled and said nothing.

Verb of the week: pihdata

  week 46, 2021 

pihdata = to keep something from someone

This can be related to sex, i.e. holding out on someone, or as urban dictionary puts it in Finnish -> Jättää tyydyttämättä (vältellä tai viivytellä) seksikumppaninsa seksuaaliset tarpeet (yhdyntä tms.).

Parisuhteessa saa pihdata seksiä. = In a relationship one can withhold sex.

Or it can be just keeping something from someone, not sharing it with them etc.

Nokian aikoo pihdata palkkatietoa. = Nokia plans to keep hidden pay information.

juksata = to pull someone's leg

Juksaatko? = Are you having me on? / Are you pulling my leg?

Hän juksasi minua. = He tricked me. / He was having me on.
