Verb of the week: mennä väärään kurkkuun

 week 21, 2021

mennä väärään kurkkuun - to go down the wrong way [to choke when trying to eat/swallow]

- literally in Finnish "to go down the wrong throat"

-You can also say "saada väärään kurkkuun" or "vetää väärään kurkkuun"

-Interestingly in English it doesn't specifically mention throat at all but it used to mean that the person chokes on what they are eating.

Älä koskaan tee kohtalokasta virhettä, jos vedät ruokaa väärään kurkkuun. = Don't ever make this fatal mistake if you swallow food down the wrong way.
