Verb of the week: repiä

 week 19, 2021

repiä  - to tear, to rip (trans)

repiä usually means "to rip" or "to tear", such as

Hän repi kangasta. = He tore the fabric.

But it can also mean "to go for it" in regard to exercise / working out. So during a workout the instructor could say:

Nyt jos haluat repiä, anna mennä! - Now if you want to really go for it, let's go!

Or an exercise could be referred to as "repivä", such as

Tässä lajissa on aika repiviä liikkeitä, joten tämä on sopiva nuorille ihmisille. = In this sport there are quite tough movements, so this suits well for young people.
